Build and deliver
This page walks the working loop: generate from the catalog, compose your own definition when the prebuilt ones don't fit, then review and get the result to its audience.
Generate from the catalog
The fastest path is a catalog entry. On the row:
- Pick one or more output formats with the format toggles (PDF, HTML, CSV, XLSX). The definition's default format is preselected.
- Click Generate.
The run appears under Recent reports with a live progress bar. Generation happens in the background — you can leave the page. A run that is still queued or generating can be stopped with Cancel on its row; a failed run shows its error message inline.
Compose a custom report
When no prebuilt definition matches what someone asked for, click Build custom report (or New definition on the catalog section) to open the builder: a split-pane workspace with your composition on the left and a live preview on the right.
A report definition is an ordered list of blocks. The palette groups them by how they render:
- KPI row — headline numbers.
- Table — tabular listings.
- Trend chart — a metric over time.
- Narrative — written sections.
- Attestation — sign-off content.
Each block has its own parameters — many take a framework activation, picked from a dropdown of your active frameworks. Blocks can be reordered, retitled, or removed, and the pane flags any parameter that still needs a value.
The right pane renders the selected block as you edit (or Preview all for the whole document), using your real data under your own permissions — the preview shows exactly what the generated report will contain, not sample content.
Name the definition, set its default format, and Save definition. It joins the catalog as a Custom entry, and anyone on the team can generate from it or edit it later.
Removing a custom definition takes it out of the catalog, but reports already generated from it are kept.
Review and deliver
A completed run offers three exits from the Recent reports row:
- View opens the report in the viewer — the rendered document plus a download button per output file.
- The format buttons download an output file directly.
- Send emails the report to recipients you choose, without leaving the hub. The Last delivery KPI at the top of the page tracks the most recent send.
Schedule recurring runs
For reports someone expects every month or quarter, create a schedule in the Schedules section instead of generating by hand. A schedule pairs a definition with a cadence and a recipient list: each run generates fresh from live data and delivers automatically, and the section keeps the execution history so you can confirm a delivery actually went out.
The Branding dialog (page header) sets the logo, colors, and footer stamped on every generated report. Do it before your first customer-facing report rather than after.
That is the whole loop: catalog or builder, generate, review, deliver — by hand or on a schedule. Back to the Overview for how Reports fits the rest of the platform.
